Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007
Introduced: 4/19/2007

Amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to add provisions concerning the prevention of homegrown terrorism (terrorism by individuals born, raised, or based and operating primarily in the United States).

Directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to:

• (1) establish a grant program to prevent radicalization (use of an extremist belief system for facilitating ideologically-based violence) and homegrown terrorism in the United States;
  
• (2) establish or designate a university-based Center of Excellence for the Study of Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism in the United States; and
  
• (3) conduct a survey of methodologies implemented by foreign nations to prevent radicalization and homegrown terrorism. Prohibits the Department of Homeland Security's efforts to prevent ideologically-based violence and homegrown terrorism from violating the constitutional and civil rights, and civil liberties, of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents.

To break this down, this is the creation of thought crimes. In other words, just by me writing this blog piece, or you reading it, can constitute a thought crime because we could be considered to be in the process of "radicalization." Its wording is open ended and can be interpreted in many ways. Use your imagination. And for God's sake don't say to yourself "they wouldn't use it the wrong way. This is America after all." If anything that we should have learned in the last 6 years is "oh, yes they can."

Jane Harman, a Democrat, sponsored this Bill in the House. The ACLU has already contacted her. Read the BS letter she wrote back to them.

It has already passed the House to overwhelming numbers (404 - 6). The only thing that can be done now is to kill it in the Senate. So contact your Senator and tell them to not vote for S. 1959
