Yvonne Bynoe's 2007 Stand & Deliver: Agents Of Change Grant

Author and Social Entrepreneur Yvonne Bynoe is now accepting applications for the 2nd annual Stand & Deliver: Agents Of Change Award. The $1,000.00 grant recognizes the work of a deserving community-based organization. The grant amount has doubled since last year.

In an effort to have a greater community impact, the 2007 Stand & Deliver: Agent of Change award program will consider local groups who are committed to improving public education, adult literacy, or employment access and training for a specified, under-served community in the United States.

The winner of the 2006 Stand & Deliver: Agent of Change grant was Sandy Shevack, a long-time community activist from Paterson, NJ. Sandy Shevack founded the Juvenile Education and Awareness Project (JEAP) in Paterson in 1983 and currently acts as its Co-Director. The chief mission of JEAP is to acquire and rehabilitate apartment buildings and then provides units as affordable housing to low-income families. The Stand & Deliver: Agent of Change Award was a initiated in late 2005 by Yvonne Bynoe in association with Soft Skull Press. According to Ms. Bynoe she created the grant because, "Grassroots organizations have to be supported financially or they can’t provide needed services to citizens---- we shouldn’t expect large foundations and the government to do it all."
