Powell’s Books championed this idea of 'Out of the Book' film screenings for "incorporating film-making and literature to enhance the reading experience." This second film features the acclaimed late historian David Halberstam and his last book The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War. David Halberstam, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author died earlier this year in a car crash.

The premise of the project is to present a series of 30-minute films featuring renowned authors in their personal surroundings, discussing their latest works and giving audiences a glimpse of their lives. More expansive than traditional readings, the project aims to generate spirited discussion about great new books. The Out of the Book films are distributed through independent bookstores all over the country.

A dramatic reading from this compelling history will precede the film, and the evening will conclude with a panel discussion by those who know the author and his subject best. Panelists include Out of the Book producer Dave Weich, Korean War veteran Jack Murphy (who was interviewed by Halberstam for the book), and novelist John Burnham Schwartz, author of Reservation Road and a close friend of Halberstam. A Q&A session will follow.
